Chickenpox is a common childhood disease for many generations. History shows Chickenpox may have been around since the Babylonian times. A Persian Scientist commonly known as Razi and Giovanni Filippo first identified Chickenpox and provided additional information about this disease. In the early days of Chickenpox, the infection was easily spread, and there were many problems until the medical advancements found provided better treatment, the infected people were isolated and vaccines became available.
The beginning
There was a description about a problem similar to chickenpox more 2000 years ago in Ancient Babylonia. In the late 800’s early 900’s AD, Muhammad Ibn Zakariya Razi, also known as Razi, collected some of the first known information on chickenpox and noted the differences between the measles and small pox. After that in the late 1500’s Giovanni Filippo was able to give a more detailed information about Chickenpox.
the discovery of being contagious
In 1875, studies were done by Rudolf Steiner, that proved that Chickenpox virus was highly Contagious. They found out this by getting some fluid from the chickenpox blister and rubbed it on the skin of very healthy volunteers and when volunteers got chickenpox the scientists knew it was highly contagious. In 1909 Von Bokay suggested the connection between shingles and chickenpox. The studies confirmed the connection when kids vaccinated with zoster vesicles [shingles virus] came down with Chickenpox.
the beginning of the treatment
In the beginning doctors treated Chickenpox by treating the symptoms and by isolation the patient. Sometimes there were serious complication, that led to death, before modern medicine was found to treat severe symptoms like really high fever and virus in the body. At present, a healthy person is allowed to let virus run it’s way with medication to relieve the discomfort of the symptoms. For the people who are in risk, there is Varicella Zoster Immunoglobulin [VZIG] that can be managed after the exposure.
Chickenpox Vaccine: The Chickenpox Vaccine has been around the world for decades. At one time it was established totally, but recently parents are making strict decisions about vaccines, including the Chickenpox Vaccine. Takahashi developed a live strong VZV [Varicella-Zoster-Virus] vaccine to prevent Chickenpox in 1972.

Chicken pox and small pox
In the beginning, Chickenpox was considered to be a mild version of the Smallpox. Richard Morton an English Physician thought Chickenpox was a mild Smallpox virus.
An another English Physician William Heberden became the first person to show Chickenpox was different from Smallpox, and proved that once a person who has infected by Chickenpox, their body will remain immune in 1767.
During the Chickenpox history, it was found as a serious disease and now it is a manageable disease because of modern medicines which reduces the risk of the virus.
